TransCanada Energy Ltd. propose la construction d’une centrale thermique d’une puissance maximale de 547 mégawatts opérant au gaz naturel. Sur une base annuelle, la centrale générera environ 4,5 térawattheures. La centrale permettra de décentraliser la production d’électricité desservant le réseau d’Hydro-Québec, en amenant cette production au carrefour de trois réseaux de transmission d’électricité dans le sud-est du Québec. La caractéristique fondamentale de ce projet de centrale de cogénération consiste en la production simultanée de deux formes d’énergie, l’électricité et la vapeur. La centrale de cogénération sera ainsi en mesure de maximiser son rendement énergétique en fournissant de l’électricité à Hydro-Québec Distribution, et de l’énergie thermique issue des chaudières de récupération sous forme de vapeur à deux industries établies dans le Parc industriel de Bécancour. Le site du Parc industriel conjugué au site portuaire de Bécancour, s’est imposé par rapport à d’autres sites potentiels d’implantation en raison de la proximité de l’infrastructure requise pour une telle centrale.

TransCanada Energy Ltd., is proposing to build a 547megawatt (MW) natural gas fired cogeneration plant. On an annual basis, the power station will generate approximately 4,5 terawatthours. The power station will make it possible to decentralize the production of electricity serving the network of Hydro-Quebec by bringing this production to the intersection of three important transmission networks in the south-east of Quebec. The fundamental characteristic of this cogeneration project is the simultaneous production of two forms of energy, electricity, to Hydro Quebec Distribution, and steam, to two industries established in the Bécancour industrial Park. The site – the Industrial Park combined with the harbour of Bécancour – was chosen over other potential sites due to its proximity to existing infrastructure.

Corey Goulet a 18 ans d’expérience à son actif dans les domaines du gaz et du pétrole. Il a rejoint TransCanada en 1998 comme directeur responsable du développement de projets au sein du service des affaires internationales. De plus, il a été directeur de l’ingénierie du pipeline au sein de l’entreprise durant 3 ans. À ce titre, il a dirigé une équipe de 75 personnes responsables de la fiabilité du réseau de pipelines de TransCanada et du support technique nécessaire pour les nouveaux pipelines en opération.

M. Goulet a débuté sa carrière comme ingénieur de production chez Home Oil Company Ltd. Il fut par la suite transféré chez IPL Energy Inc. (aujourd’hui Enbridge Inc.) où il a occupé différentes postes dans le domaine de l’ingénierie et des opérations. Il a aussi assumé le rôle de superviseur de l’assurance-qualité et celui de directeur de projet dans le cadre du plus important test hydrostatique au monde d’un pipeline en opération. M. Goulet est membre du « Operations and System Integrity Subcommittee for CSA Z662, Oil and Gas Pipeline Systems ». Il a représenté TransCanada pendant deux ans, comme membre du conseil d’administration, membre du comité exécutif, et membre du comité de planification, au sein du Pipeline Research Council International, Inc. (PRCI).

M. Goulet a un B.Sc. en génie mécanique, obtenu en 1985 à l’Université de l’Alberta.

Corey Goulet brings 18 years of oil and gas experience to TransCanada. He joined the compagny in 1998 as a manager responsible for developing projects in the international business unit. He also spent 3 years as the director of Pipe Engineering. In this role, he lead a team of approximately 75 people who were responsible for managing the integrity of TransCanada’s pipeline system, and providing technical support for new and operating pipelines.

Mr. Goulet began his career as a production engineer with Home Oil Company Ltd. He then transferred to IPL Energy Inc. (now Enbridge Inc.) where he held a variety of engineering and operations positions. He also took on leadership roles as the supervisor of quality assurance and the project manager of the world’s largest hydrostatic test of an operating pipeline. Mr. Goulet is a former member of the Operations and System Integrity Subcommittee for CSA Z662, Oil and Gas Pipeline Systems. In addition, he represented TransCanada for two years as a Board member, Executive Committee member, and Planning Committee member with the Pipeline Research Council International, Inc. (PRCI).

Corey Goulet graduated with a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta in 1985.
